Fall/Winter Lookbook: The Senszio Custom Shawl Coat

Look 2 from our Fall/Winter Lookbook is the shawl coat in a grey and black Glen check from Carnet’s overcoat collection. The fabric is 64% virgin wool, 20% polyamide, 13% silk, and 3% cashmere.

The inclusion of polyamide gives the fabric stretch. This improves movement and manoeuvrability, especially if your preference is a slimmer fit. At a weight of 550 gms/mt, it’s an excellent alternative to a traditional overcoat, which some may find too heavy-duty or formal.

PRACTICAL AND STYLISH

We built in some features that are practical as well as stylish. These include a shawl collar, which you can turn up to protect the neck.

We’ve also added a little to the length – shawl coats are rarely long enough to cover the suit jacket, so our version accommodates this and offers the jacket protection from the elements. For this, we took inspiration from the traditional car coat, which sits on the thigh, some three or four inches longer than a traditional suit jacket.

COMFORTABLE MOVEMENT

We’ve included a pleat at the back to allow for a comfortable range of motion, while an adjustable half-belt ending at the seams can be pulled slightly. This creates a nice silhouette for the waist while creating fullness above (for the lats/blades) and below (for the hips).

We’ve achieved a casual look with the gold buttons. However, you have the option of a medium-brown horn for a more formal look.

Shirt

Brown shadow stripe from Canclini with a high cut-away collar, 3 1/2″ point length and 2” collar height (fabric number AM 947).

Tie

Black, yellow and red striped woven 100% silk tie, 8 cm x 150 cm, 3-fold construction with a light interlining – made in Italy.

Trousers

Beige chalk stripe on a grainy grey base from Loro Piana’s Proposte Abiti Fall/Winter 2019 Collection (fabric number 699011).
